I first went to Romania in October 1993, travelling as a childcare volunteer for the White Cross Mission,
a UK charity working in the villages of Remeti and Bratca in the Bihor area of Transylvania.
Romania has received a lot of negative press over here in recent years.
A news story featuring the country tends either to be about corruption, poverty, assylum seekers or the continuing plight of its abandonned children. These are all real and
important issues in Romania, but to focus purely on these at the expense of all its virtues is to overlook a rich and artistic culture that has so much to offer.
