Interim management
Do you need short-term cover for a vacancy, or someone to lead or be part of a task-and-finish team ?
With experience of being the interim director of children’s services in Portsmouth, Slough and on the Isle of Wight, and previously as executive director of education and leisure at Southampton City Council, I can cover senior posts across Children’s Services, Learning Services and Leisure Services in local government or related voluntary sector agencies. This could include work in schools, colleges and universities.
Training
With substantial training experience across the education and leisure sectors, I can offer training in topics related to:
- learning
- leadership
- the management of change
- emotional literacy.
I am open to new topics and challenges!
Facilitation
Partnership boards, governing bodies, management and leadership teams often need an outsider to help them to perform more effectively – this can range from action-commentaries on the conduct of meetings to a full programme of team development – always with successful outcomes in mind.
Consultancy
I am not convinced by the idea of being a ‘consultant’ – it smacks too much of the old cliché of “borrowing the clients’ watch to tell them the time”. However, if this is the general term for:
- investigating a problem and proposing effective solutions;
- managing projects;
- supporting change management; or
- developing the learning and leadership of an organization,
then OK, this is the kind of consultancy I can offer – value for money, bespoke work to make your organization more effective, efficient and equitable
Evaluation and research
With an extensive background in school inspection – as a local authority inspector and Ofsted registered inspector; a D.Phil (Sussex) which explored the impact of inspection on primary schools and which involved extensive work in research and evaluation methodologies; and as an honorary fellow of the University of Southampton, I am ready to undertake evaluation and research in any aspect of your organization – particularly qualitative research.
